Raleigh Wyoming touring bike

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

This is a Raleigh Wyoming touring bike from the mid 1980s. It’s a steel-frame 12-speed with friction shifters. I bought it on Craigslist for $125, and put about $100 worth of restoration parts and accessories into it. I’m fairly new to bicycle maintenance so this has been my first real “project”. Last weekend I reaped […]

Celeste Bianchi Reparto Corse SL

Friday, April 25th, 2008

I bought my Bianchi for $800 at a local bike shop. It looked brand new, but suffered from shifting complaints, which may have been why the someone traded it in. Luckily everything was fixed with a new cassette and chain. I’m really happy to finally have a fast, light bike for the first time in […]

The Black Baron’s 1976 Motobécane Super Mirage.

A recent acquisition from craigslist free section, all she needed was air in the tires.
So far we’re enjoying each other’s company.

And no, the gas meter is not part of the bike.

Just picture this polished like it should be.

Hardly a scratch on her, I think the poor thing spent most of her life in a basement […]

1984 Trek 460 singlespeed/fixed conversion

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

One of the early forays into foreign production…between 1984 and 1986, Trek used a Japanese factory to manufacture several road bike models.  Those Japanese craftsmen sure were talented — the lugwork and brazing is sublime!

Nothing special, parts-wise:  Weinmann rims on Formula flip-flop hubs, Bulletproof crankset, Dia-Compe 400 brakes, vintage Waveflo Titanium race saddle.  Check out […]

1983 Bianchi Road Bike

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

My all-time favorite bike…purchased new at the Bianchi factory store in Milano, Italy way back in 1983 (using money from my first job).

Campagnolo shifters and derailleurs, Ofmega crankset, BB and headset, Gipiemme Super-Corsa brakes.  Currently, I am running Matrix rims on Maillard “Helicomatic” hubs, but am in the process of building Velocity Aerohead/Aerohead OC rims […]
